WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

  Some boys need a different kind of environment.

 

 

   HOTF creates structured outdoor experiences for boys from foster care, adoption, and hard places—boys whose stories may have shaped how they experience trust, relationships, authority, challenge, and belonging.

We understand that behavior often communicates something deeper. That's why our approach begins with connection, consistency, clear expectations, felt safety, and trusted adults who keep showing up.

The outdoors gives us room to put those principles into practice.

A fishing line teaches patience. A trail creates healthy challenge. Setting camp builds responsibility. Working with horses requires awareness and self-control. Learning outdoor skills develops competence. Sitting around a fire creates space for relationships to develop without forcing the conversation.

The adventure is real. So is the purpose behind it.

 

We intentionally create experiences where boys can take appropriate risks, learn new skills, work through frustration, experience accomplishment, and discover what they are capable of—with trusted adults close enough to guide them without doing everything for them.

Every boy arrives with a different story, culture, personality, and set of experiences. We don't expect them to become the same boy.

We create room for them to belong, build trust, develop resilience, and grow from where they are.

 

HOTF isn't therapy in the woods. It's something bigger.

 

It's boots on the trail. Dirt under the fingernails. Fish on the line. Horses in the pasture. Meals around the fire. Hard things accomplished. Healthy boundaries. Trusted relationships. And another opportunity for a boy to experience:
